Methods of Tooling Repair and Restoration

Mechanical methods include grinding, polishing, honing, and milling — operations that eliminate wear on working surfaces and restore original part precision. In cases of significant damage, welding or buildup with subsequent machining is performed, allowing the geometry to be restored without replacing expensive components.
Thermal treatment — hardening, tempering, and nitriding — increases the hardness and wear resistance of working parts. Additionally, galvanic coatings and laser cladding are applied to provide corrosion protection and extend tooling service life.
