Mold manufacturing is not just a technical operation but a collaborative project between the customer and the manufacturer. To ensure the result meets expectations, it’s important to prepare initial data, understand the stages of cooperation, and define the key parameters of the product and tooling in advance.
Below is a brief and clear algorithm that helps avoid mistakes and achieve the optimal technical solution.
1. Define Production Volume
The production volume directly affects the mold design and cost. The higher the batch size, the greater the requirements for automation, the number of cavities, and the mold’s service life.
Parameter | Prototypes / Small Series | Medium-Scale Production | Mass Production |
---|---|---|---|
Number of Cavities | 1 | 2–4 | 4–8 or more |
Ejection | Manual | Semi-automatic | Fully automatic |
Mold Material | Pre-hardened steel | Böhler (Austria) | Böhler (Austria) |
Gating System | Cold | Cold / Hot | Hot runner (Mold Masters, Incoe) |
Service Life | Up to 10,000 cycles | Up to 300,000 | 500,000 – 1 million+ |
Compatibility with IMM | Up to 50 t | 50–150 t | 150–350 t and above |
Cost | Low | Medium | High |
2. Prepare Product Data
The more precise the product parameters, the more reliable and cost-effective the mold will be. Please specify:
- dimensions and geometry of the product;
- material (e.g., ABS, PP, PA, POM);
- design features (holes, undercuts, etc.);
- surface finish requirements (glossy, matte, precision);
- application area and operating conditions.
3. Documentation for Quotation
For technical analysis and cost estimation, it is recommended to provide:
- a 3D model in STEP / IGES format;
- drawings in PDF or DWG format;
- technical specifications with detailed requirements.
No Documentation?
If you only have a sample — we can perform reverse engineering:
- take measurements from the sample;
- create a 3D model and drawings;
- prepare a full documentation package for production.
⚠️ It is not possible to make an accurate mold quote based on photos, hand-drawn sketches, or verbal descriptions.
